This Mama Has One Less Challenge After Blade-Free LASIK

When people ask about LASIK, it’s always the same two questions:

  1. Does it hurt?
  2. Is it worth it?

Dallas mom blogger Autumn Reo of “Mama Challenge” says she has been asked these two questions most since having Blade-Free LASIK with Kleiman-Evangelista Eye Center in Arlington. Here is a look at her journey to better vision.

The Pre-Op

Autumn’s LASIK journey began in early March, when she came in for her initial consultation. Although she rocked a distinct and fun look with her glasses, Autumn decided it was time to make a change. This was her first step:

When I Googled, I found out I could make a free appointment to start the process with one of the leaders in LASIK, Kleiman|Evangelista and they had a location close to me. I wasn’t sure what the process was, but I figured this was the first way to figuring out what’s next and it was free. What do you have to lose?

At her appointment, Autumn was given a basic eye exam, as well as additional eye exams by an ophthalmologist to ensure she was an ideal LASIK candidate. She then toured the LASIK suite and was given time to ask any and all of the questions she had about the procedure, pre-op and post-op. Finally, she met with Dr. Frasier to determine if she was a good candidate based on all the records of her eye health examination. She was a great candidate!

After making arrangements with her mom to drive her home the day of surgery and making sure the kids were covered, Autumn scheduled her LASIK procedure for just one week later! In fact, many Kleiman|Evangelista patients feel so comfortable and confident after their initial consultation that they schedule their procedures right away!

The Procedure

Go time! Just one week after her consultation, it was LASIK day for Autumn. In comfortable clothes, she was given a small dose of Valium to help her relax. It also helps most patients fall asleep after their procedure. Then, it was her time to enter the LASIK suite.

So here comes popular question number one: Does it hurt?

Autumn said:

I’ll admit – it wasn’t like getting a massage. It was a little uncomfortable but nothing hurt. There was a bright light, a little pressure, and then we were done.

In just 15 minutes, it was all over. Autumn’s mother/chauffeur/caretaker/photographer, as she is characterized on Mamachallenge.com, brought her home and it was time for bed. After a few hugs and kisses from her kids, Autumn put on her eye guards to keep her eyes safe while she slept, and was off to dreamland.

The Post-Op

The next morning, Autumn woke ready to see if she could – well – SEE! She could! She put in her drops for the morning and was off to the office for her next-day follow up. After a couple quick checks, Dr. Frasier told her that her eyes looked great and she already had 20/20 vision, just one day after surgery! She just had to keep up with the drops and return in a week.

This is where Autumn knew the answer to the number two most-asked question:
Was it worth it? She wrote:

A few weeks after LASIK, you’d think maybe I’ve gotten used to not having to wear glasses. Nope. Each morning, when I don’t have to put them on, I get excited that I finally did it... It amazes me how much my eyes changed in such a short amount of time… So what are you waiting for? There’s no time like the present to start seeing your life more clearly with LASIK.

After Autumn’s follow-up appointment in May, she talked with Kleiman|Evangelista Director of Operations Eric Roddy in the Arlington office for a Facebook Live session on her Facebook page. They discussed her experience with LASIK and answered viewers’ questions about the LASIK process. Below is just a glimpse of the Facebook live session. To see more, visit Autumn’s Facebook page.

Thanks, Autumn, for trusting Kleiman|Evangelista with your precious eyesight!
